Sunday happenings

Well, after spending Saturday at the airport, visiting the handler, the customs office etc... and paying the necessary duties on the item...we learn at 5:00pm that the radar will not be delivered on Saturday but rather Monday...sigh.

We head back to the hotel Sofitel to entertain different options. We decide to spend our time in Bogota and depart Tuesday for Iquitos to rejoin the group.

Unfortunately, we have missed the cruise on the Amazon river, a highlight of this Journey.

On Sunday, I received an early morning email from Nori-san, requesting we secure a charter flight to take him and his wife to Iquitos to join the Amazon cruise. The flight is confirmed for 10am and we are ready to go at the airport by 9:15. The plane is a King Air 200 with a crew of 2.

We have secured a transfer in Iquitos and a speed boat to zoom them down the Amazon River to meet up with the main boat and the rest of the Journeyers.

Nice looking machine.

And what service! They even moved the airplane into the hangar so that the door into the aircraft was directly over the welcome mat. Inside, lunch is waiting.

We are ready to finalize the payment, money about to change hands when...

The operator notifies us that he is unable to get the necessary permits to fly to Peru :(

at 12 noon we are back at the hotel

Sophie has arranged for dinner at a great restaurant in an active part of town.

Today is an election day for a new congress in Colombia. 32 million people are expected to vote.

As a result there are many people out and about in the streets. The whole city of Bogota has stopped serving alcohol since Saturday at 6pm and it will last until Monday at 8am in an attempt to keep everyone in order.

This is the name of the restaurant in the Usuquen quarter of Bogota.

It is a traditional Colombian restaurant, only locals frequent and we made great choices with our meals.

The only thing Sophie did not like was the colorful wall across the street with a drawing of a rat, not the most appetizing of images during a meal.
