A long day today,
On our way to Arequipa and Juliaca, Peru
After one night in Iquitos, it is time to leave for the Andes and Lake Titicaca.
Here is the brief
Times
· Departure Iquitos: 9:00 local / 1400z
· Arrival Arequipa: 12:00 local / 1700z
· Departure Arequipa: 13:30 local / 1830z
· Landing Juliaca: 14:00 local / 1900z
Weather
· Iquitos: 0% to 30% chances of precipitation from 7am to 10am
· Arequipa: 0% to 20% chances of precipitation from 10am to 1pm
· Juliaca: 20% to 40% chances of precipitation from 10am to 4pm
Since we are leaving the tropical weather of the Amazon to the Andes, we are sensitive to the weather on the route.
The satellite image id not the greatest, but we decide to go for it.
The Mustang leave first and then Steve and Lorne. Initially we climb to 370, but soon ask for 390 to be above the clouds, that did not work and the flight became a little bumpy. Then we fly over the Andes and they are covered by cloud, we are not far above Cuszco, but it is under the cloud.
As we approached the destination,m the weather open up and we fly at FL250 right above the Volcano Misty and then the approach to Arequipa, where we decide that a tailwind landing will be better than a circle to land over some terrain…It looks like that the weather reposting never mention winds above 9 kts regardless of the actual wind.

Nice view of the Amazon
Arrival in Arequipa, the cloud cover open up and we see the blue sky
Above the Misty volcano setting up for the approach in Arequipa
On final in Arequipa
This is the weather map on take-off, looks like we are in for some interesting flying. Keep in mind this is a satellite view not radar and does react to humidity in the atmosphere.
Even at FL390 we were in a cloud layer
